Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself
Fear is very prevalent in you all.
Fear of the unknown.
Fear of the future.
Fear of the past.
Fear of the past seems odd, because how can you be fearful of something that has already happened? It is over. It is complete. You know the outcome, so how can you be fearful of it? Think about it. How do you live your life based on past evidence? “Oh, this happened to me once so now I must be on the lookout in case it happens again.” Now we are not saying that you should not learn from your mistakes and experiences, this is certainly the case, but you should take away power from that because if you know the phrase “knowledge is power” then you understand. You now know that these types of things can happen. You know how you reacted to them, you know what can happen, but the most important thing to know is that you “survived.” If you survived why are you frightened? Yes, maybe the experience was harrowing, but you survived and it is OVER. If you continue to hold on to things that are over how much space do you have in your life to allow new life experiences? If you continue to harbour resentment toward people who no longer inhabit your life or jobs that you hated or teachers at school or even abusive and unknowing parents; how alive are you with all of this baggage?
Think of these thoughts as weights you wear. Count the people and things that you have brought forward into the present that no longer inhabit, control or invade your lives. Just count them. Then imagine that each one is a one pound weight. How much weight are you carrying around that is phantom? For that is what they are, phantoms that you continue to invite to your dinner table. We understand that you have bumped up against many scratchy or uncomfortable things in your life. Some of it was abusive either physically, emotionally or spiritually but we are not interested so much in what “they taught you” as in “what you learned.” Did you learn to continue to perpetrate their unpleasantness? Did you learn to hide and not live? Did you learn to be angry and withdrawn? Did you learn to be a bully too? Or did you learn that in the face of ugliness, you can still be a blossom that flourishes? Did you learn that you want to spread joy and love and peace so that the ground can be fertile for your own and others healing? Do you want revenge or peace? Do you want anger or love? Think about the choices you make. Think about the phantoms you allow to steal your life and joy and health. Think about the choices you make and then we ask that you seriously consider choosing love and joy and peace and LIFE.
We leave you in love.
