Happy Holidays
Thanksgiving is done. Now it is time for everybody to begin the maniacal rush to the December holidays. The parties, the food, the shopping, the angst of what to buy for others or the emptiness of having no one for whom to buy. Happy music will pour out of radios and stores. Hallmark movies will appear along with the classics both old and new(er). People will be filled with cheer – some real, some for show. We will care about others and show generosity both material and of spirit. And in four weeks we will hit reset. Turn the calendar to 2026 and the month of resolutions, not drinking and the plan to be heathier will be upon us.
It is an interesting life cycle and yet one most of us embrace to some extent. For those of us who no longer engage in a lot of the noise and chaos, it is a time in which we can enjoy other people at least acting as though they are kind and loving. Finding the softness within ourselves is a good exercise. It just seems a shame it is only fully embraced by the populace for a four-to-six-week period annually.
What if we all attempted to be our most joyous, thoughtful and festive self for at least a quarter of a year? Think about it, January starts with a day off, then there is Martin Luther King Day. February has President’s Day for a three-day weekend and Valentines Day. March gives us the Ides and St. Patrick’s Day and sometimes Easter/Passover. Then we could amp it up to six months, using Christmas in July as a goal. Afterall, Amazon does Prime Days in July which is very Black Friday adjacent. April starts with Fools, sometimes has Easter/Passover and who doesn’t enjoy Tax Day? May has Cinco de Mayo as well as graduations, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day (another three-day gift). June is more graduations, weddings, Father and Flag Day. Don’t forget the aforementioned Prime Day and 4th of July. I get the July to September piece is tough. It is summer and not much is happening, but let’s find a bit of creativity that would allow us to get to Labor Day. Then we have our first three-day weekend and Fall is coming and that means cooler weather, colored leaves and soon Halloween. From there it is easy sailing because we hit the habitual season.
Come on fellow Earth Campers. Give it a try. It just might make 2026 a lot easier and certainly more fun.
I am grateful to all of you who read the blog, even if only intermittently. I am also grateful for so much more. The fun and the challenges.
Happy Holidays!
